As well as taking in surrenders and rescues, we also provide a guinea pig boarding service. Our rates are very reasonable and you have the comfort of knowing your precious little pets are being cared for by people who are experienced and knowledgeable and know the signs to look for should your guinea pig become ill whilst in our care. Guinea pigs are very adept at hiding illness and may already be unwell at the beginning of their stay, but not showing any signs at the time they are dropped off. Over the years we have saved the life of several boarders who have, unbeknownst to their owners, been ill when brought to us for boarding. There have also been a few instances over the years where people have cancelled their booking when a neighbour, friend or family member has offered to look after the guinea pigs for free. As a result, the piggy's owners have returned from holidays to find one or more of their guinea pigs has died from heat stroke, or in the case of house visits, the carer has forgotten to check on the pigs for several days and one or more has died from dehydration and/or starvation. When it comes to your guinea pig's ongoing welfare, boarding with people who know about guinea pigs, and more importantly, who care, is definitely your best option.

WHAT YOUR GUINEA PIGS WILL EAT DURING THEIR STAY:
We feed all the guinea pigs in our care fresh hay, our own shelter dry food, Oxbow Essentials or Vetafarm Cavy Origins Pellets, grass as available, and fresh veggies and fruit, concentrating on leafy greens (mesculan, cos lettuce), cucumber, celery, tomato, capsicum and carrots. Also on the menu when available are apples, pears, parsley, basil, coriander, fennel, sweetcorn and melons. Kale is fed in moderation, when available. We never feed our guinea pigs English spinach, baby spinach leaves (unless in mesculan) or silverbeet. Other seasonal veg and fruits can also be obtained on occasion but the aforementioned are the mainstay.
