CRISIS SITUATION ACROSS QLD GUINEA PIG SHELTERS!!
14th MAY 2021
I’m saddened to say that in my almost sixteen years in rescue, the last few months are the worst I’ve ever encountered in regards to the number of guinea pigs being surrendered 😟 I currently have 211 at my rescue (plus four out on foster) and have literally run out of cage and floor space. Other rescues (of which there are only a handful in the Gold Coast/Brisbane area) are also full and all have long waiting lists, and adoption enquiries for all of us are slow. I hate having to turn people away who contact me about surrendering as I want to be able to offer all unwanted guinea pigs a place where they can wait in safety until good new homes can be found. I refuse to lower my standards when it comes to rehoming any of our guinea pigs as I need to feel confident that all our adopted piggies will be treated as family members and be loved and cared for in suitable inside homes. If you are reading this and feel you would fit our adoption criteria (found on the Guide to Adopting page) or if you have adopted from us in the past and have space for even one more, please contact me asap. Alternatively, if you’re unable to adopt but still want to help, donating $60 towards a male desexing would help enormously as desexed males are adopted at a faster rate than male pairs and single non-desexed males. You’ll find info on sponsoring on the Sponsor a Piggy page.
